Christmas is the time to say I love you!

Good Morning Nesters!  As we all know, the holidays are the time to share with our loved ones and show them how much we care.  And hot-diggity-dawg I am hooked on my boyfriend, Matt, of which you've all heard.  Schmultzy isn't it?  I know. It's terribly cheesy but it's true. He's got me hook, line and sinker. And I like to think, he feels the same. But around the holidays I felt the need to express it more than the every-day.

We look freezing here because, well, we are.  We went to Zoolights at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA to embrace our inner children and ended up dodging the millions of other peoples outer children that were apparently on the attack.  All the while freezing our little hienies off.  But it was worth it for the lights.

Amongst all of his presents was a hand made card.  I almost always make him cards.  The first card I gave him was a hand drawn rendition of this Mickey and Minnie cartoon for Valentines day a few weeks into our relationship.

But the card I made him this Christmas {I think} beats them all.

It reads: "Christmas is the time to say..." and on the inside says "I love you."  It's a nod to Matts' favorite Christmas song by Billie Squier "Christmas is the time to say I love you"

I made bridal shower invitations a few years back for a girlfriends shower and have about a million sheets of card stock left over, which I used as a base.  I had bought some wood grain printed scrap booking paper that I grabbed as a background.  And long long ago when I was in art school my parents gave me some very special silk screened paper that they used when they were in art school in the 60's and 70's.  I love this stack of paper. It has every color imaginable. It has hundreds and hundreds of sheets and no two are exactly the same. I grabbed a fire engine red and a lime green.

I cut the wood craft paper  out a 1/4" smaller than the face of the card to give room for a border.  I then traced the bottom of a jam jar as a circular template and cut out two lime circles and one red. I cut out 1/4" strips as well.  I used rubber cement {I should own stock in rubber cement with the amount I've gone through in my lifetime...} to adhere the wood grain paper to the card stock.  Once that dried, I glued down the 1/4" strips.  After those dried, I slapped on the "ornaments."  I forgot that I had an unused silver Sharpie hanging about and thought it would add a nice little glitz to this rustic card.  On each ornament, I wrote two of the words.  Something was missing. They didn't truly look like ornaments. So I doodled on a little ornament hook and some stars.  I think it is just hands down adorable.  Matt even thought it was store bought at first!  He's so sweet.

Not only was my card hand made, but it made his favorite Christmas ditty sentimental for the two of us.  But now I've raised the bar for myself and who knows what I'm going to have to come up with for our 2nd anniversary next month! Eek!  What do you think, Nesters?  Did you like it? Did you make any special Christmas cards for your loved ones this season? Or what special way did you show them that you cared?  Spill it! Tell us what you think because we're all dying to hear!
