Heya Nesters! We're back in action on this beautiful Monday in Beantown. Over the weekend there were lots of festivities and fun to be had, but I carved out a little smidge of time to make a couple sigh-worthy changes to the ol' nest 'o' mine.
Since removing the rickety, wire Ikea shelves and adding the white bookshelf not all that long ago, I've been agonizing over the way-too-colorful look of the books. Maybe this is totally insane of me to even be considering, but I really wanted a monochromatic look to the shelf. I had had the idea of covering all my books in brown paper bags- circa 6th grade- but that is a whole lot of potential paper cuts and time spent. It may still happen but Crystal over at Plush Plate had a much quicker and easier fix to her same dilemma.
Brilliant! Why didn't I think of it before! Just flip the books so the spine is facing the back and the pages are exposed! It gives the layered, monochrome look I was hoping to achieve without any of the hassle of covering all of my books! Matt asked me, "Well, how are you going to know whats what?" Frankly, Nesters, since these are all books I've already read, {and I rarely read a book more than once} these can just live here on the shelf and I'll probably never have to go searching again.
And there you have it. A quick fix for a cluttered looking bookshelf. What do you think? Have you tried anything like this yourself? I'd love to hear from you!!
I remember reading this post when you first tackled this project...gorgeous! :)
