Basket Case

Heya Nesters! May I start off by saying a hearty TGIF to you all!  Spring is right around the corner and  so is Easter! And you know what Easter means.... BASKETS! I have a problem with baskets. I love them. Particularly if they are dark brown and/or have handles. I am a total "basket case"!  {I crack myself up!}

 Oh hello 1994!... Nice to see you again... I've missed you!

  But there is a caveat: I will only get one if they are cheap enough.  Sometimes I can be really stingy with spending money since, well... I don't have much, so baskets {which despite their function, seem frivolous to me} fall into that category.  I'm in the market for baskets thanks to the white bookshelf makeover and cushion addition.

See all that nasty clutter? Yuck.  I hate.  I was ready for a change and just happened to be poking around Target just a few weeks back, and put two of these milk crates in my cart.  They were modern and I liked that they were square.  The metal frame made them feel pretty sturdy.  Not too shabby.

After a lap around the store and some pre-purchase buyers remorse, I put them back.  They were still $12.99 a piece. {They're on sale for $9.99 each now.} Twenty four dollars for two baskets? Really? Does that seem a little steep to anyone else? I knew I could do better.  I wasn't worried. I knew they would find a happy home with some wealthy family.  And like I said before, it is basket season! Easter and Spring bring them out like a tidal wave, I was bound to find the right fit for me.  Though, most of them look a little more like this...

I made a trek to my favorite place, The Christmas Tree Shop.  Low and behold, on the top shelf sat three baskets with glistening rays of light shining behind it and a choir started singing the Hallelujah Chorus.

Risking life and limb by climbing up the shelves, {Aren't you surprised that my towering 5' stature couldn't reach?} I landed on solid ground with all three in hand.  Then the moment of truth: I took a peek at the price tag: $6.99. Oh that's right. I took home all three baskets for pennies over $20.  I got three for the price of two Target ones and, frankly, I think they're cuter.

I love the little leather handles and they a cute, feminine shape. They fit perfectly in each space.

And they also look great with the brown of the leather cushion and I also unearthed an old dark brown jewelry box that works perfectly! Now all my junk is masked for the most part. Sure you can see some things peeking out there but that's okay. As long as they're wrangled.  I do live here after all. As much as I loved amazingly styled rooms for magazines I always think, "But who can live in a house like that?" I'm just keepin' it real for you guys! Oh and that third basket? Hasn't found a permanent home yet, but I have a few ideas for it... Stay tuned for that one!

So there you have it, Nesters! I finally fixed up my little white bookcase! What do you think? Do you have a weird thing with baskets like I do? Or are you a stingy basket shopper, too?  Let us know you're thoughts! We're all waiting to hear from you!

Have a wonderful weekend!! I'll see you all back here on Monday with Satine's latest and greatest! <3

  2. I'm pretty stingy with baskets too--most of mine have come from Hobby Lobby or the like, where I've found them to be a bit cheaper :)

    Have a great weekend!

  4. Funny that you posted this - I have been picking up baskets just like this at TJ Maxx and Target for WEEKS, carrying them around in my cart, then talking myself out of them and putting them back on the shelf. WEEKS. The ones you got are perfect, and what a steal! Nicely done!

  5. Great find, Gina! I love it when you find something that fits perfectly together like that. And I definitely operate with the mindset that something a little less expensive can almost always be found. Good for you for waiting it out and finding some awesome baskets in the end!

    Have a great weekend,
    Erin

  6. LOVE the ones you chose! CSN always has cute ones too and sometimes i'll luck out from target... though finding a basket that matches my picky icky tastes is just impossible to do within a budget, so I go basket-less instead of being a basket-case =) teeheee!

    love your bench and cushion with the baskets girl! it is just a perfect match! <3
