Good {snowy} Morning, Nesters! Last night I added a little tulle and tootsies to my fine nest. What the heck am I talking about? Well... lets start with a little background.

During my junior and senior year in college, I took a few photography classes. I grew up with images of my Dads' hanging in all of the rooms of the house. {See some here and here.} We even had a darkroom in our house! How many people can say that? Yeah. It was awesome. He taught me how to develop film manually and then how to use the enlarger and how to process a print. I would even practice rolling my negatives onto a roll without looking {because you have to do this in the pitch black and will inevitably do it with your eyes closed.} at the dinner table. {If you ever had doubts that I wasn't a geek, are you reassured now?} So, when I was in college and in need of taking a few studio classes, I naturally opted for photography. After my beloved black and white photography class, I begrudgingly went on to color. I thought it was too cheery. I like my images mysterious, moody and black and white with deep shadows. But I found out fast that color could be just as fun and resonate the same way with viewers as black and white.
I had a project due and nothing to shoot but the light was so beautiful in my bedroom. So, I threw on one of the wedding dresses and petticoats I made from my collection and set my my tripod. This is one of the shots.
It's all the tulle from the petticoats and my tootsies! I love the texture and almost abstract look to this. My favorite of this series is with my Dad in his apartment. And after 4 and a half years I finally bought a frame for this and hung it.
I picked up the 11X14 frame for $10 at A.C. Moore today with a coupon. In fact, it's the same as the one I used on the LOVE poster. I hung it in the bedroom with the little gallery I've got going in there.
I've gotten a few super cheap white and ivory frames from the Christmas Tree Shops and added coordinating craft paper in them.
sorry! shooting at night! eek! |
The gallery's a bit lop-sided right now but it's a work in progress. I hope you guys like the addition! Tell me what you think, Nesters? Too many galleries going? I'm addicted to them. It's an illness. That and addiction to lamps. What was your favorite elective in school? Anyone else take photography and then lose all skills when transferring over to digital like me? HA! Alright, Nesters, dish! I can't wait to hear what you have to say. <3
Last night I updated the blog a bit and added a tab for DIY's that I've done. But I think I might be missing some... hmmm. Let me know if you can think of any I missed....
GG, Love the print!
ReplyDeleteDad
It looks grogeous! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThat print is so beautiful! Nice shot wow.
ReplyDeleteI have my bachelors and took MFA credits all in photography :) I heart photography and you obviously have a nice eye!!
Love the wall gallery!
Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm so happy you like it! And I'm so happy I stopped putting off getting a frame!
ReplyDeleteMaybe if we ask my Dad nicely, he will take a picture of his little gallery- including my print and I can post it on here for you all to see, too!
<3
I love the new gallery, especially that print you took. It makes it all the more special when the print actually means something!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite elective in college is a two-way tie (and this will identify me as a geek) between a History of Iraq class and French. I took both of them during my senior year and while I can neither speak Spanish (what I took for my language requirement) or French fluently, I enjoyed the class. I also have a much better understanding of the Middle East and the current situation in Iraq than I did before :)
