Upholstery Class: Week 10

Heya Nesters.  I can't believe I've already been posting about Satine for 10 weeks! Totally wild, right?  I just can't wait to get her all dressed up and into a space to see her in all her velvety glory. I know last week you guys were all so sweet to tell me that my post was not boring. This week I will rival last weeks boredom! I kept hammering away this week, completing the nail head trim.

I was so proud that I really got the hang of the nails.  If the first side took about 3.5 hours to complete, the second side took about an hour. Talk about a learning curve!! I used nearly an entire HUGE box of French Natural decorative nails. {See that cardboard box on the table? Yeah that was full when I started. And at this point there are probably 20 left... whoops!}

Last week I described the top curve as the most "fun" I must admit... the front curve {by the seat} was by far the most difficult.  I had to call in the expert for some help on a couple of those nails that were stubborn.

Pretty sweet, right?  I love the brass finish against the navy.  I can't help but think it looks nautical and like some fabulous chair from a Captain's quarters.  And I'm not sure I made this clean in my "how to" but the panels of fabric on each side is being 100% held on by the decorative tacks.

"So what's left, Gina? Get off your hieney and finish her already!" you ask? In my next class I will have to hand stitch some transition lines.  Add the cambric on the bottom and I cant forget about adding the outside back to hide all of the innards from the frame and the buttons.  Hopefully I'll be taking Satine home with me by the end of next class! I can't wait to show you all the final B&A!  Hooray!  Stay tuned next Monday for that one!  In the meantime, enjoy your Monday, Nesters! <3

  1. You've done an amazing job. I'm so impressed, and I know Satine is going to look gorgeous in your home. And I got a line on an upholstery class locally, from one of our first customers, no less. She's going to sign up, and I hope I can too.

  5. She is so gorgeous and I can't wait until you are done and I can see her in her natural environment aka your apartment!

    Now that all of the nail head trim has been applied (and the second part went faster than the first), has your opinion on DIY-ing a headboard changed at all? Just curious because I think it would be awesome and I would like to live vicariously through you as you take on the project :)

  8. You gals are just the sweetest things! Thank you for reading! And great question KT! I think knowing what I know now about nailhead trim.... I would not enter into adding it to a headboard lightly ... I would definitely do it but think seriously about the time commitment and the many four letter words that will be a product of that time. So is it out of the question? No. Is it the front runner headboard idea? Proooooobably not. Haha well see how things manifest! <3
