The Beginning

Just a few miles outside of Boston lives a girl ... *ahem* young woman. She tosses and turns at night, unable to sleep because her mind wont stop churning, imagining what it would be like to fly solo...

My name is Gina. I'm 25 and I think I might be having some kind of quarter-life crisis. I thought I got that out of my system several years ago when had graduated from fashion school, I moved out of Moms' after a short stint there, bought a car and skateboard- which I never touched, and got a tattoo. I was badass and dreaming about moving all over the country and world. Something clicked in me about a year ago and now I am going through the exact opposite type of crisis. All I want is to cook a hearty meal for my wonderful boyfriend, Matt, and friends and pinch my pennies to buy a house to make my own. But most importantly I want to decorate!! The kicker? Like most of my classmates, I still make entry level wages and there is no way I could manipulate the numbers to make that work.  *thumbs down*

I live in a 3 bedroom apartment outside of Boston with 2 roommates. I've been in here the longest and its been a revolving door of roommates since I moved in. I find that because of this, I am the most invested. I have lived in every bedroom in the house and almost all the furniture and decor is mine.  Slowly but surely, I have traded up on all of my pieces or modified them to look like a "real adult apartment" and less like a college dorm room.  As of late, I have hit that point where I just want to live alone. I realized I get endlessly frustrated that no one is helping me clean, or decorate or make our house a home (I'm sure you can sympathize).... the only solution?  Live alone.  Have it all my way.  All the time.  I know that sounds selfish, and it is.  But at least I wont be making any roommates lives miserable anymore because they arent helping me do the dishes, right?

So my idea is to bring you with me on my apartment hunt and when I move into my own 1 bedroom apartment and take you on the journey of decorating it in a creative, affordable, flexible, changable and movable (!) manner.  I love nothing more than going to TJ Maxx or (in my opinion the best chain in New England) The Christmas Tree Shops and picking up a new lamp or vase or throw pillow for cheap! Hopefully I can share some fun tips and ideas with you along the way.

My first apartment viewing is Saturday morning, so wish me luck!
