Heya Nesters! On Saturday, I was on my way home from upholstery class I made a little detour down a side street I don't normally take. Like it was destiny, there, sitting in the four foot pile of snow, was a gem of a trash pick - a broken chair. And it was mine. All mine. Now you may be thinking, "Gina, why would you ever want a broken chair?" You'll just have to trust me on this. But that's not why I'm telling you this story! Believe it or not, it gets better! As I was pulling the chair out of the snow, the owner came out and asked me if I was interested in any vintage hats. She was moving and said they would just be thrown out otherwise, so I followed her to a pile of hat boxes. I only went home with one adorable one that I am totally in love with.
Isn't she cute?
I don't know the first thing about vintage hats but apparently she's one of Frank's Girls. I love the cutie little pink band inside. So much fun!
I knew as soon as I saw the color that I'd put it in my bedroom. She totally works with the color of the curtains and I love the fun color combo with the yellow dresser!
I love how it works with the color but something was out of place. The gallery wall was lop sided, waiting for the perfect last addition.
And then the light bulb went off. The love poster from the kitchen. I needed more yellow in the room to tie in the yellow dresser. So I switched things up.
Doesn't it look great together? I'm so excited about adding some good color to the room! But taking the Love poster away from the kitchen left a blank space. {I'm already working on another poster for the kitchen that you'll see sooner rather than later. } For the kitchen, my brother gave me one of his original art pieces that once hung in a SoHo gallery. {Aren't I so chic? I have a real SoHo art piece in my house!} I put that up on the wall just outside my bedroom and I love it!
Isn't it wonderful? I feel so lucky to have original art in my house. Putting this up, displaced the $7 Christmas Tree Shop canvas. Which I put up in place of the Love poster for now.
It was a big art-swapping night! Let's take one more look at the bedroom gallery.
*swoon*
So there you have it, Nesters! Have you guys put up a new piece of art? Or done a big switcheroo to give some old art new life? Or maybe you had a totally random trash pick like me?? We'd love to see! So spill it Nesters, we're all waitin' to hear from you!
Very cute hat! I think it would be fun to add a different color ribbon or some rosettes to it!
ReplyDeleteYES! My head is so enormous that vintage hats laugh at me. So hanging one on my wall would hurt my self esteem.
ReplyDeleteBut this one is AMAZEBALLS!
Haha Holyoke Home I have the exact opposite problem! I have a head the size of a child ( no joke I wear childrens size hats) so this puppy is strictly decorative! Haha seriously... you can call me pinhead.
ReplyDeleteCaroline - that is a great idea! But I think it would make me sad to compromise its history and original design. Plus... you don't mess with Frank! Or his girls! Haha :) but I might be in the beginning stages of vntage hat hoarding... so maybe I can do tha on anoter one?
Thanks for the thoughts gals! I love to hear them so keep em comin'! <3
What luck! I love the hat - super cute.
ReplyDeleteCute hat! Our city has two bulk item trash cleanup weeks (one in the Fall and one in the Spring) and I love driving up and down the streets looking for great deals.
ReplyDeleteDid the chair make it home with you? Is it salvageable? I hope so :)
Darling hat! Thanks for including me on your blog list. :-)

It looks totally, totally perfect. And oh, that hat! You are one lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteso very cute!
ReplyDeleteAH i love the hat. and the color. what a great story. :)
ReplyDeleteThe hat is great, and I like the way you've rearranged your art. When I got a huge Van Hoople picture at an estate sale a couple of months ago, I put it over my sofa and moved the large metal wall art into the dining room. It really changed the looks of both rooms. So cool that such a small change can have such a major effect!
